We are all itching to do more activities, especially now that it’s summer and camp is out of the picture. We have been doing a lot of hikes and plan to take some trips to the beach, but it was nice to mix it up a bit by going strawberry picking this past weekend at Jones Farm.
Located in Shelton, Connecticut, the experience actually starts online where you book your visit for specific time slots throughout the day.
We opted for a 10:45am slot on Sunday where I was then prompted to pay. I opted for the $37 box and the $14 box to pick our strawberries, and was then given a confirmation email.
Upon arrival, the farm seemed already packed but it was very well organized as we were told where to stand as we learned more about the safety procedures (check out more about their safety guidelines and in-person requirements). After giving my name, we received our baskets and was then directed to another employee who told us how to pick (there are also signs placed throughout the space as well). We were then asked to go in a row where no other patrons to maintain social distancing.
Once in our row, we got low and picked away. There was ample strawberries in the field that we all searched for, especially the bright, red ones. It was pretty hot on the field, so definitely go as early as possible and wear sunscreen! After about an hour our boxes were filled with our red bounty.
A few other things to note about Jones Family Farm:
Bring sunscreen or wear sunscreen – it gets really hot out on the fields.
The porta potties are really clean and they have a sink next to them where you can wash your hands.
Don’t just show up – make sure to book a reservation as the slots sell out quickly!
All guests, 10 and older, must pick at least 1 Jones basket; or up to 2 guests can share a Jones box
Children under 10 must pick into their own Jones container or share with only 1 other person
5 persons or less per reservation
After the morning of strawberry picking, we went to the Foundry Kitchen and Tavern for brunch. More on that soon in a future review, but it was a great option that was only around 20 minutes away from Jones.
