Safety Around Water Week

Safety Around Water Week

With summer coming, I’m banking on having time in the sun (obvious) and also more adventures to the beach and the pool. With three little ones, this is also a concern when it comes to safety. This is especially scary since the CDC estimates that -approximately 10 people drown every day in the U.S. and more than one in five fatal drowning victims are children younger than 14. These are chilling statistics, but studies have shown that participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children aged one to four years. To help families stay safe around water, the YMCA is hosting Safety Around Water Week where kids will learn essential water safety skills. Held from now through April 29th, this program is free and open to the community.
