When I was thinking about this review, I realized that it was going to be pretty short since everything we enjoyed at Gigi and Mario was incredible. From their meatballs to their brick-oven pizza to the pasta to the salads, and dessert, we were overwhelmed by the incredible dishes we tried that left us full and so excited to come back one day. But since I really want you to try Gigi & Mario’s, I’ll go into more details about just how awesome this eatery is and some the favorite dishes we enjoyed trying.
Located at 86 The Promenade at City Place in Edgewater, NJ, Gigi & Mario by Chef Mathieu Palombino, an internationally renowned, innovative and award-winning chef of Pizzaiolo. With a background in developing high-end pizza restaurants in NYC, Hong Kong, Dubai, and Malaysia, the tri-state area is so lucky to have access to Chef Mathieu Palombino’s delicious dishes right in Edgewater, NJ.
The gorgeous and open-spaced restaurant features booth-style seating where you can look at their giant wall menu and watch as the pizza is being made right before your eyes. Mesmerizing and delicious!
We opted for a little bit of this and that with a Pizza with half cheese and half peppers and olives, tomato as well as Buffalo Mozzarella and Meatballs that was made in the most incredible house marinara sauce that was slightly spicy and sweet.
Pizza is one of the main attractions and pizza fans will flip when they try Gigi and Mario’s made to order in their pizza oven. There’s so many options to try such as Specialty White or Tomato Pies and the classic Tomato and White Pie in a 12 or 16-inches. This can be topped with and endless list of combinations and options such as Chilies, Pecorino, Calabrese Chilies, Roasted Peppers, Cremini Mushrooms, Cherry Tomatoes, Pepperoni, Prosciutto Di Parma, Cherrystone Clams, and so much more!
For our main dishes, the kids had the Rigatoni and Meatballs made with house marinara, parmigiano and I had the Gigi’s Salad with Salmon with pieces of soppressata as well as Kalamata olives, oregano, chives, Calabrian chile, parmigiano, mustard vinaigrette, and more! Every bite was fresh and bursting with flavor!
The wine list was also excellent where you can get half or full bottles as well as juices for the kiddos.
We ended our meal with a monster-sized Tiramisu, made with espresso, mascarpone, and delicate ladyfinger cookies and the New York Cheesecake that was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. Well, I guess I did have more to say about Gigi and Mario’s, but the bottomline is it’s a fantastic restaurant with Italian classics in a casual setting.
