As my kids are getting older their interest in books and what captives their attention has started to change. A few topics that they have started to take interest in is Science and building, so I was thrilled to have the chance to check out the new book, How to Build a House: A colossal adventure of construction, teamwork, and friendship, a gorgeous animated story that combines animation and storytelling to teach kids all about construction.
Written by Saskia Lacey and illustrated by Martin Sodomka, How to Build a House follows the adventures of three friends – Eli, Phoebe, and Hank, as literally learn how to build a house. This not includes a standard story but detailed and very specific steps where kids can actually learn what goes into building house. Throughout this detailed story, kids will follow along as the characters themselves are learning how to build a house, including all of the components involved in how this comes together such as the blueprints, how to make a roof, how walls are created, the complexities of heating, decorating, and tons more! In addition to better understanding the complex nature of creating a house, the story also stresses why it’s so important to hard as well as to work as a team.
While following along with them, I loved how the book covered such clear imagery to tell the story as kids could see a basic introduction of how a home is built, which was equally engaging for my 5-year-old and my 8-year-old.
A must-check out book, kids will be able to learn more about the intricacies of building and construction as well as better understand the importance of friendship, teamwork, hard work, and course, curiosity.
