New Book "Fly, Fly, Again" Encourages Kids to Follow Their Dreams+ Author Interview

Following your dreams is a mantra that is instilled in all of us. As kids, these dreams and the ideas of who they are going to become is strong as they have dreams to be everything from doctors to astronauts to a pilot (and beyond!).

Fly, Fly, Again authors Katie Jaffe and Jennifer Lawson

In the new book, Fly, Fly, Again authors Katie Jaffe and Jennifer Lawson that introduces kids to the concepts of flight – lift, gravity, thrust, and drag, along with pitch, roll, and yaw – as characters Jenny and Jude work together to build a flying machine.  I loved reading this book of adventure, teamwork, perseverance and aerodynamics as we followed along as Jenny and Jude worked hard to and eventually learned how to (literally) fly! Where did you grow up /live now?

I grew up in El Paso, Texas and moved to Austin to attend UT. I currently live in Austin with my husband and three children.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I have always wanted to be a writer.

What is your education/career background?

I studied Government and Film at The University of Texas at Austin.

Do you have kids and/or pets?

Yes, I have 3 children and 2 dogs.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer? Or what first inspired you to write?

Since I was very young, I have always loved to write. I have also had a passion for children’s causes from a very young age, and writing this book was a great way to give back to children’s education with our proceeds benefiting UNICEF and Buzz Aldrin Ventures.

What inspired your story?

Our story was inspired by my husband Jordan who has had a love of flight since he was a child. Our family is in the aviation industry and our three children have also developed a love for flying. We are constantly teaching them the basics of flight in our day to day life, and this book was the perfect way to do so for all kids that may be interested in flying.

How does a new story idea come to you?

Is it an event that sparks the plot or a character speaking to you?
