Symphony Space’s Thalia Kids’ Book Club

Symphony Space’s Thalia Kids’ Book Club

We love sharing the love of reading with our kids. One such event that has been connecting kids to well-known children’s authors is back this winter and spring with Thalia Kids Book Club at the Symphony Space. This one-of-a-kind  event series, produced with the Bank Street Bookstore, unites avid readers with the authors, illustrators, and books that inspire their imaginations. The 2017 Thalia Kids’ Book Club season continues with these awesome events:

Sunday, February 5 at 1 pm
An Afternoon with Hervé Tullet
Young fans of illustration will interact with the wildly imaginative French born author of Press Here and Let’s Play. Fellow illustrator Chris Raschka (A Ball for Daisy) will join the discussion about art and storytelling. As Children’s Corner notes, “Hervé doesn’t just read his books — he performs them, moving like a dancer this way and that way, to add yet another layer of fun.”
Ages 5 – 10

Sunday, March 5 at 1 pm
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler 50th Anniversary Celebration
An afternoon of readings and lively discussion with contemporary authors, including Blue Balliett (Chasing Vermeer), Chris Grabenstein (Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library), Wendy Mass (The Candymakers), and Alexander London (The Wild Ones) who have been inspired by E. L. Konigsburg’s Newbery Award-winning classic about a sister and brother who run away to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and find themselves caught up in a mysterious adventure.
Ages 8 to 12.

Saturday, April 1 at 11 am
Discovering the Middle Ages with Adam Gidwitz and Benjamin Bagby
New York Times bestselling author Adam Gidwitz (The Inquisitor’s Tale, A Tale Dark and Grimm) and Grammy-nominated performer Benjamin Bagby will come together to bring the Middle Ages to life through stories and song. Following the performances and discussion, audience members will stage a scene from The Inquisitor’s Tale together with Gidwitz and Bagby. For medieval scholars and enthusiasts, and children age 8 and up. Costumes are encouraged–it’s April Fool’s Day, after all. A book signing will follow.
