Free Fun in NYC at the High Line

Gorgeous views of the High Line in NYC

While NYC is the one of the most expensive cities in the world, there are also tons of ways to enjoy the city for free. One of my favorite free activities to do with the kids is to walk along the High Line, a public park that was built on a train line. This is also home to collection of art exhibits, food vendors, tours, and awesome views of Manhattan.

The petting zoo at the Standard

After the petting zoo at The Standard hotel, which was ridiculously cute and small enough that I could mange it with three kids, we went up the 14th street exit and walked around the High Line. It was a warm, but windy as we took in the sights, looking at the old rails, plants and street views of bustling NYC.

Art on the highline

We stumbled upon an interactive art exhibit where kids could paint on small cardboard boxes. It was cool to see how all of the boxes came together to form their own structure, which kids can contribute to or take home after they finished. We took ours home as the kids talked about creating their own art boxes.

I’m really excited for the warmer months where there will be a ton more to see (and eat) with food vendors and activities for kids and adults. On their upcoming calendar, this includes star gazing, music, poetry tours, art exhibits, and more – all for free.
