Broadway Magic at Paramour

This Friday, I had the pleasure to check out Paramour, a magical show on Broadway created by Cirque du Soleil. Having never seen a Cirque du Soleil show in the past, but having heard much about them, I sort of knew what to expect, but the show far exceeded my expectations (and senses) throughout this jaw-dropping and exciting experience.

The show follows the timeless story of a young actress from Indiana who has dreams of becoming a star and gets swopped up an acclimated director who plucks her from absurdity and gives her a three-movie deal.  What follows is a dynamic show filled with incredible music, gorgeous dancing, and eye-popping acrobatics that Cirque du Soleil is renowned for. And that’s really just a small of the show that left me in awe of the shear talent and strength of these incredible performers. This unique combination results in a bold show that’s incredibly dazzling as the audience has the opportunity to see aerial moves, tightrope acts, incredible jumps and tumbles and so much more!

Under the artistic guidance of Jean-François Bouchard (creative guide and creative director), the production features at least 15 different circus arts disciplines such as aerial strap artists, banquine, Chinese pole, contortion, cyr wheel, hand to hand, hand to trapeze, juggling, lyra, Russian bar, Spanish web, teeterboard,
tumbling, trampoline, and trapeze — many of which have never appeared on Broadway. And remarkably, the cast and creative team come from 13 different countries (Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Belarus, Canada, China, Cuba, France, Poland, Russia, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States) spanning five continents. The cast also includes a company of Broadway actors, dancers, and renowned aerialists, acrobats, and circus arts performers covering the disciplines of aerial strap artists, Chinese pole, contortion, juggling, Russian beam, teeterboard, tumbling, trampoline, trapeze, and many others –who all come together to deliver one of the most stunning shows that I have ever seen.

Paramour has an open-ended run at the Lyric Theatre (213 West 42nd Street).
