JBFC Kids Weekend Fun: Hands-on Workshops and Indie Films at the Best of the 2017 New York International Children’s Film Festival

It has been two years since we moved from Brooklyn to Westchester and I still feel like I’m figuring out my way, finding the cool things to experience and explore over the weekend. One place that we discovered pretty soon after our move was the Jacob Burns Film Center.

Located in Pleasantville, it become a favorite for spot for viewing independent films and checking out cool and educational programs for the kids through their JBFC Kids division. This includes the chance to watch family-friendly movies (we loved The Little Prince last year), experience FREE interactive and hands-on activities at Family Saturdays @ the Lab as well as courses and workshops designed for ages 3–13 such as Adventures in Media, Experiments in Media, and more.

Older kids will love these award-winning shorts: three friends spend a day walking in each other’s shoes…and legs, and torsos; a boy finds adventure in his lunchbox; a teenage monster confronts a bully; and other witty and wise takes on friends, family, and fitting in.

The event on September 24th also coincides with Art House Theater Day, a nationwide celebration of independent films and its role in community. On this day, kids will have the opportunity to experience hands-on activities (before and after the films) and check out a collection of films such as shorts, creative animated films from around the world, live action movies, and more.

  1. They ALL look good! A Hole, You Look Scary, and Mr. Night Has a Day Off look good for my younger daughter. And I think my older daughter would enjoy Welcome to My Life, Roger, and Heads Together.

I’m going to have to mark this on my calendar— we love JBFC!
